The new Delicious and throttling
As I said in a previous blog post, the updated delicious.com seems to be a bit over-sensitive when it comes to throttling / limiting requests to their service. I found some “facts” posted by delicious team members in the official support forums.
- API calls: Calls to https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all are more limited than the other calls. It’s best to only request that one only every hour or so. (said by britta) – this is why subsequent calls to DeliciousAPI’s get_user(user, password) method (i.e. including password) will get you throttled very quickly
- RSS feeds: You should be able to query 1 RSS feed per 30 minutes. (said by britta)
If any of you have more information, please feel free to let me (us) know and I’ll add it to this list!
In the meantime, you might want to contact delicious directly if you are a developer who runs into throttling limits. From my own experience, the delicious staff is a friendly bunch of people – so give them a chance to help you out!
